RICHARD FLANAGAN was born in Tasmania in 1961. Regarded internationally as one of Australia's pre-eminent novelists, his multi-award-winning novels, DEATH OF A RIVER GUIDE, THE SOUND OF ONE HAND CLAPPING, GOULD'S BOOK OF FISH and THE UNKNOWN TERRORIST have been published to popular success and critical acclaim in twenty-five countries. His most recent book, WANTING, won the 2009 QLD Premier's Literary Award for Fiction, the 2008 WA Premier's Literary Award for Fiction, was a 2008 New Yorker Notable Book, 2008 Library Journal Notable Book, 2008 London Observer Book of the Year, and 2008 Washington Post Book of the Year. It was also shortlisted for the 2009 Miles Franklin Literary Award. He directed a feature film version of THE SOUND OF ONE HAND CLAPPING and collaborated with Baz Luhrmann on the script for Luhrmann's blockbuster AUSTRALIA.
