Author description

British-born pastry chef Darren Purchese has won a loyal, enviable following over five years with his Sweet Studio Burch & Purchese, on Chapel Street in Melbourne. Together with wife Cath Claringbold, he has built a reputation for stunning feats of sugary deliciousness combining jellies, sponges, mousses, cream, crumbles and spreads. Many creations are works of art as much as they are a birthday cake or celebration dessert. Darren has played a prominent role on MasterChef over successive years (he was responsible for the passionflower pressure test, one of the highest rating episodes in 2015), and had a cameo role in Neighbours in 2015 - playing himself. With Lamingtons & Lemon Tart, his most recent book, he demonstrated to fans that he was not all about high-end theatrics in the kitchen - and that he loves comfort food and treats as much as the next sweet tooth. Chefs Eat Toasties Too is an extension of that premise, filled with delicious and inventive sandwich combinations that he loves to eat.
