Interior Design

An interest in design began at an early age for Malene Birger, when she was originally inspired by both her grandmother and mother's sharp eye for fashion and trends. On completing her Fashion Design Degree at the prestigious The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts - The School of Design in 1989, Malene Birger started her remarkable career. Primarily, as a fashion designer at Jackpot by Carli Gry, then as head designer of womens wear at Marc OPolo, Stockholm, until 1997 when she established her first company. Just six months after starting Day Birger et Mikkelsen she won her first Danish Design Award, going on to be the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions since. Malene moved on to establish her second brand in 2003, as Creative Director and CEO of BY MALENE BIRGER A/S. From its inception, BY MALENE BIRGER has expanded to become a vibrant international brand, with representation in over 42 countries around the world.

Product Information

In 2010, Malene Birger decided to leave the business side of the company by selling her remaining shares to co-founder, IC Company's, in order to concentrate exclusively on her creative development and work in general. And in 2014, Malene chose to hand over 'the creative keys' to her Design Manager, Christina Exsteen and the design team. Christina has worked closely with Malene since the fashion house was founded. Today, Malene Birger is focusing on her other passions and inspirations - art and interior, in her new company BIRGER1962 launching during 2014. Yet another step in the expression of her extraordinary creativity.
