In the next door garden they were digging out a drain when the weather turned quite nasty and it poured and poured with rain. The little digger working next door gets stuck in the mud so the workmen bring in a bigger digger, but it too gets stuck in the mud, so they bring in a bigger, bigger digger. The original story was drawn after a real event, when one of Betty and Alan's grandchildren excitedly told them about a digger getting stuck in the mud next to their house and they had to bring a 'bigger digger' to help free it. The idea stayed with Betty and The Little Yellow Digger was eventually born. Since then the Little Yellow Digger has been on many adventures. This bright attractively designed gift bag contains all 5 books; The Little Yellow Digger, The Little Yellow Digger and the Bones, The Little Yellow Digger Saves the Whale, The Little Yellow Digger Goes to School and The Little Yellow Digger at the Zoo.
Betty Gilderdale is known for her biographies and adult publishing, but she is even better known for her invention of this popular piece of playful machinery.
