Poetry & Plays

Henry Lawson is one of Australia's best-known writers and poets. His short stories such as 'The Drover's Wife' and 'The Loaded Dog' are colourful chronicles of the hardships, struggles and triumphs of Australian bush life at the turn of the nineteenth century. Known as 'The Poet of the People', Lawson captured, with gritty realism, the lives of everyday Australians trying to survive in the harsh outback. His short stories and poems are filled with humour and warmth, even as they detail battles with drought and poverty. Though sometimes bleak, his stories never lose sight of the resilience of the Australian spirit. This beautifully illustrated collection of Lawmen's work is presented in chronological order and spans the entire career of one of Australia's master storytellers. Book jacket.
