In a career spanning more than 20 years, Darcey Bussell achieved legendary status in the dance world. In 1985 at the age of 16, Darcey was accepted at the Royal Ballet's National School in London, and in 1989 she became the youngest ever British ballerina to be given thehonour of Principal dancer. She is a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2006. In 2006 Darcey announced her retirement with her final performance of MacMillan's Song of the Earth in June of the following year. Darcey joined the judging panel on BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing in 2012.
