Description

Following on from I AM JULIET (August 2014), this is the second title in a proposed new series for young people that focuses on the reinterpretation of Shakespeare's classic and enduring plays. Ages: 10+ Who was Ophelia? She only appears twice in the play Hamlet. The rest of the time we only hear about her second hand. Even her death is told by others. Did she really die? Could Ophelia have decided that if her lover could pretend to be mad, she could too; and that with the death of her father and brother she could determine her own future. Ophelia is depicted in Hamlet as a poor sweet innocent. This story will take Shakespeare's text and give a different interpretation, with Ophelia being the daughter of the palace chamberlain who was raised with palace intrigues and knew how to use them, eventually becoming the queen of Denmark.
